Day One at M.D. Anderson

Well, today was our first day at M.D. Anderson. It was good. We were there from 11:30 to 5:30. They did blood work today. Tomorrow they will be doing scans. He will have the first one at 7:40 in the evening. If I could ask you a favor, would you please consider stopping at that time and just lift up my dad and our family. Today my dad was able to get stronger pain medication. Last night he was in a lot of pain. Other than that it has been good.

Countinue to keep us in your prayers. We like the docters. Everybody over at M.D. Anderson are really nice. Keep checking here as I will be trying to update you daily. My dad has already shared the gospel with someone. Even though he is in pain he still wants to minster. Aferall, life is about praising the God who gives us life in the first place. May your life and the way you live it be your worship to God and may other people be able to see the God you serve through the way you live your life.

Thank you for your love and prayers for our family. We can't say thank you enough.

Dinner with Friends & Last Weekend

So this was our last weekend home. We had a great weekend mixed with sadness. On Thursday night we had dinner and prayer time with my best friend Mallory. Mallory is one of those friends that I have been friends with forever. She is always there for me and someone I know has our family in her prayers. We are both the only child in our famlies so we are like sisters. Her parents and my parents are best friends and her parents treat me like I am their own daughter. I love our friendship and it something I cherish deeply. This is one person that I will miss so much while we are gone but I take the comfort knowing that she is just a phone call away.
Then tonight we had dinner and prayer time with my best friend Alissa's family. I went to church with her but we didn't become really close till this year. This year she started coming to school where I go and she is someone that I took under my wing so to speak and helped finding stuff around the school and in the process through helping her on the first day and eating lunch together we have become really close friends. She has two younger sisters and so it is a fun time when I go over to her house. She is the friend that I know is always praying for me and our family. Alissa is the friend that always gives you a listening ear and there for you no matter what. I know that she would always stand up for me and has my back. Also, her parents are best friends with my parents. Her parents treat me as if I am their own daughter. Her friendship is precious and something that I am so thankful for. I will miss this family and her so much.
So this weekend has been a great weekend and a sad weekend for us. We don't won't to leave but we know that God has gone before us and opened the doors. It's just that two weeks is a long time but we know that God will carry us through it. Hopefully we will have the chance to minster to the other families and patients at the hosiptal. We will be leaving tomorrow after church. Pray that we will have safe travel and share the hope and joy we have in our Savior. Also, pray that the docters would have wisdom. They are doing tests the first two weeks so pray that the tests go well. Even though the mourning may last for the night we know that God gives us His joy in the morning and His new mercies. Whatever you are going through know that God's grace is suffient for you and He will give you the strength to get through whatever journey you are on.
We love each and every one of you and we will miss you. Countinue to check here as I will try to update here daily.
Enjoying sleeping tonight in my own bed for a while,
Bridget

Why me? Moments

So we are just enjoying our last week before we head over to M.D. Anderson. I have never appeciated being home like I am this week. Pray for us that we will have safe travel. We will be over there for 2 weeks so know if you are in our lives we will miss you. We will go over there knowing though that people back home are praying for us which means more than you will ever know.

Do you ever have moments in your life where you just want to ask God why me? Sometimes that question seems to be the biggest one we have and one that sums all the other questions up. There have many times on this journey that we as a family and individuals have asked God this question. Every time we seem to arrive at why not me?

I know that it rains on the righteous and unrighteous but sometimes life can just seem so unfair but that is life. Life is full of questions that we may never get answers to especially the question of why me in life. We as a family and individuals will never pretend to understand the why behind why our family was choosen for this particular journey but at the same time we trust the God who holds all the answers and our futures in His hands.

So how do we face why me moments in life? We run to God with everything in us while we still don't understand and trust that He knows what He is doing. So whether you are loving your life right now or wondering what God is up to know that He is always working in our situations whether we can see it or not.

Never be afraid to trust your unknown future to a known God. God knows what He is doing. I promise you that. God has showed us time and time again on this journey that He knows what He is doing. An example of that is that when we found out that my dad had cancer weeks later people in our neighborhood found out they had cancer. My dad was able to let them know what to expect. I promise you that my dad would tell you if our journey, our story, and our life can touch somebody's life than it is worth it. We want to share the hope we have with people and that we can trust the God who holds all the answers whether the answers are revealed to us or not.

Cherish the time you have with loved ones.

I'm Back

First of all let me first say that I'm sorry I haven't blogged lately. My computer went down so I had to bring it to get it fixed but now it's back up and running. So hopefully you will forgive my absense.

I hope you are enjoying your summer and cherishing the time you have with loved ones. I am starting to appeciate being home more since next weekend and for two weeks I won't be here. My dad is heading over to M.D. Anderson for 2 weeks to start off with. They will be doing tests on him for those 2 weeks. God has defintely gone before us and opened all the doors. Will you please pray that God will countinue to open doors and close the doors that need to be shut?

I promise I will start updating more. I will be bringing a laptop with me so I start trying to update you daily. Thank you so much for your prayers. That means more to me and my family than you will ever know.

Also, countinue to pray that my dad won't be in so much pain. His back pretty much hurts him everyday. Pray that God would ease the pain he has in his back. Pray that we as a family and individuals will keep our eye on Jesus.

Our faith is real and God countinues to become more and more real to us. It's our prayer that people would see the hope we have. That even when life gets tough we have a God who holds our hand on the journey and quietly and gently calms every single fear we may have.

Psalm 34:18 from the Message says If your heart is broken, you'll find God right there; if you're kicked in the gut, He'll help you catch your breath. Many days our hearts can feel more broken than others but we know God is right there to comfort us as only He can do. At times we can feel like have just been kicked in the gut but God countinues to give us the grace to catch our breath.

I'm so thankful that God gives us His grace for each moment that we face every single day. Afterall, it's God grace that is suffient for every single moment of every single day. It's my prayer that you would come to know such grace.

Thankful for God's grace,
Bridget
